Every fall we have the same conversation with customers: they want something new, but they don’t want to rebuild their whole closet. Our answer this year is neutrals — cream, oatmeal, camel, and chocolate brown.
Neutrals are the easiest colors to wear and the easiest to mix. Buy three pieces and you have a dozen outfits. And this season they’re anything but boring, because the interest has moved to texture and tone instead of loud prints. Here’s how we’re wearing them, piece by piece, and the accessories that finish the look.
Why fall neutrals work
The trick is tone on tone. Instead of matching exactly, pair shades that sit next to each other — cream with oatmeal, camel with chocolate. Slightly-off tones read richer and more intentional than a perfect match.
The second trick is texture. A ribbed knit next to a smooth skirt, a soft sweater under a structured jacket. When the colors are quiet, the fabric does the talking.
Cream and oatmeal: the soft base
If you buy one thing this fall, make it a light neutral sweater. The Signe Sweater in cream is the one we keep reaching for — wear it with denim now, and under a coat once it finally gets cold. The Joelle Sweater in beige is a touch warmer in tone, and the Joni Top in beige is the lighter layer for the in-between days Alabama is famous for.
Camel: the polished middle
If brown is the new black, camel is the new navy. It looks put-together with no effort. The Marin Set in camel is a full outfit in one purchase — wear the pieces together, then split them up with the knits above. The Annika Skirt in camel pairs with every sweater in this post, and the Leigh Top in vintage khaki is an easy everyday top that sits right in the same family.
Chocolate brown: the anchor
Chocolate is doing the work black used to do. A brown dress is our favorite fall shortcut — one piece and you’re dressed. The Joss Dress in chocolate brown and the Petra Dress in brown both work for church, dinner, or a Saturday in town. For something with a little more edge, the Margaux Jumpsuit in brown and the Mirren Top in chocolate are the pieces to try.
How to accessorize neutrals
Neutral outfits are a blank canvas, which is exactly why accessories matter more with them than with anything else. Here’s how we finish the look — and it rarely costs more than the top you’re wearing.
Add a belt
A belt gives a sweater or dress a waist and turns a simple outfit into a styled one. The Flower Tie Belt in dark brown is new this week and made for chocolate and camel. Belts now have their own section in our shop.
Go gold, and layer it
Gold is warm, and so are fall neutrals — they were made for each other. The Multi Rope Gold Necklace fills the neckline of a crew-neck sweater, and the Gold Chained Drop Earrings add movement without competing with it.
Pearls soften everything
Cream pearls against cream knits is one of our favorite tone-on-tone moves. Try the Pearl Station Cuff or the Gold and Pearl Drop Statement Earrings.

A scarf or wrap for pattern
If an all-neutral outfit feels too quiet, a print is the fix — as long as it stays in the family. The Brown Zebra Scarf adds pattern without adding color, and the Solid Fringe Scarf brings texture. Wraps are the other new section in our shop and the easiest layer for a cool evening.
Browse everything in one place — earrings, necklaces, bracelets, scarves, belts, and wraps — in our accessories shop.
